Size 16.1” x 24”

Unforgettable darkest memories in early spring 2020 sumi on washi paper.

Kae Seak, a painter hailing from Nagano, Japan, was raised in an environment steeped in artistic appreciation. Her formative years were profoundly influenced by the traditional art of sumi ink painting, imparted by her grandfather. This early exposure laid the foundation for her lifelong pursuit of abstract expression, channeling her introspective thoughts and visions onto the canvas.

Parallel to her artistic endeavors, Seak cultivated a deep-seated passion for music, which has significantly influenced her creative output. Her artistic talents extend to the music industry, where she has crafted cover art for record labels across the United Kingdom, South Africa, Italy, Germany, and beyond. Her collaborative spirit has led her to work alongside photographers, guitar craftsmen, designers, and various other creatives both within and outside Japan, pushing the boundaries of her creative potential.

At the core of Seak’s work is a consistent theme: a reflection of her own essence. Her art is not merely an expression of her identity but an exploration of the self, making each piece a personal narrative that resonates with authenticity.

When I free myself from my ego without being owned by the social environment I am in, I can feel that my creativity opens up and springs. By focusing into inside of my mind and owning my world, my heart opens freely. Dropping the first drip of ink on the white paper means making a choice or decision of my life in that moment. The moment could arrive in calmness, sometimes in fear. Every moment I scratch my heart and stroke a brush asking that way, the pictures are exhaled, which all are portrait of myself captured in each moment harmonized with paper, sumi ink, and paints.” ~Kae Seak
